BOARD OF DIRECTORS – EXPRESSION OF INTEREST APPLICATION

Apply to become a member of It Gets Better Canada's Board of Directors.

Are you passionate about supporting Canada’s 2SLGBTQ+ youth? Join our efforts as we continue to uplift and empower queer youth from coast-to-coast and apply to join our board today.

It Gets Better Canada envisions a day when no young person in Canada feels marginalized, isolated, excluded or rejected because of their sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. We are looking for qualified and committed candidates to help further the impact of our cause.

The Board strives to maintain diversity across age, gender expression/identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, regional representation, and professional experience. While the Board must remain small enough to enable engaged discussion and effective collective decision-making, including director selection, development, and succession planning, it must also collectively possess the diverse knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to:

  • Oversee and advise the Executive Director in managing the Charity
  • Meet the requirements of committee work
  • Achieve our vision, mission, and strategic priorities

All application responses, and information contained within your personal statement  will remain confidential to the HR & Governance Committee and the Board and will be used solely to enhance board composition and diversity.

At IGBC, we are committed to equitable representation at the decision-making table. As part of this commitment, we prioritize lived experience and value the many ways people hold and gain knowledge—not just through formal roles. We want to ensure access to those who are often excluded from decision-making spaces. To do so, we invite you to share your story and lived experience in your personal statement, in whatever way feels authentic and comfortable to you. This may include—but is not limited to— age, gender expression/identity, socioeconomic status, ability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, regional representation, professional experience, personal projects or hobbies that shape your perspective.

For example: I’m an autistic Brown non-binary 36-year-old Francophone currently residing in Tkaronto, and use they/them pronouns. I’m a friend, student, human-parent, and dog-parent. In my current role, I lead monthly events for 2SLGBTQIA+ folks—including 2SLGBTQIA+ youth—in the workplace to connect with each other. Personally, raising my child who is intersex has been one of the most rewarding and challenging experiences of my life, as I work to ensure they feel seen, celebrated, and able to thrive as themselves.

Please note that the information contained within your personal statement is strictly confidential. It will only be reviewed by the HR & Governance Committee and the IGBC Board for the recruitment process.
