Our Youth Ambassador Program is an exciting opportunity for high school students across the country to earn volunteer hours, connect with It Gets Better Canada’s programming and resources, and advocate for inclusivity and acceptance in their school communities and beyond.
To learn more, we invite you to join us for our virtual information session on Wednesday, June 17th, at 4:00 PM EST.
The Youth Ambassador Program is open to high school students across Canada (aged 14-18) who are passionate about 2SLGBTQ+ advocacy and inclusivity and are looking for an opportunity to volunteer in their school community, earn volunteer hours towards their graduation requirements, and gain experience in community leadership.
Selected Youth Ambassadors will receive training on IGBC’s current and upcoming programs and resources, and will share this knowledge within and around their school community, helping to spread our values of acceptance and resilience with other 2SLGBTQ+ and allied youth across the country.
Youth Ambassadors will receive training and education on IGBC’s core values of inclusivity, diversity, and acceptance, which they will share with their school community.

Yes! We welcome applications from high school students from all provinces, including those which do not have an official requirement for volunteering. Students in these provinces will still earn an It Gets Better Canada Youth Leader Certificate following their completion of the Youth Ambassador Program.
Yes! We encourage our Youth Ambassadors to engage in volunteer work outside of their home, mainly within their school communities. The IGBC team will share some volunteeroppurtunities our ambassadors can complete without parental sign-off. Most importantly, we encourage you to prioritize your safety and well-being, so please consider if participating in this program is safe for you at this time.
Some provinces require high school students to complete their mandatory volunteer work outside of school hours, including lunch. If this is the case for you, we recommend volunteering after school ends, in the evenings or on weekends when you are available. You can check with your school administration to confirm the specific requirements for your province/school.
There are a variety of volunteer activities to choose from, each of which will help you earn your volunteer hours. These include planning and preparing a school event/assembly, designing and distributing educational posters, and creating content for our newsletters/social media.
Youth Ambassadors who complete the program will receive equivalent volunteer hours plus an official It Gets Better Canada Youth Leader Certificate, which can be featured on resumes and secondary school applications.
This program is currently only offered in English.
Please first fill out the following information and wait to be contacted by a member of our team Applications are due September 25th at 11:59pm EST!
