Today's leading queer content creators are transforming TikTok and inspiring 2SLGBTQ+ youth!

On October 18, 2022, It Gets Better Canada chatted with three impactful creators: Tyra Blizzard, Owen Unruh and Breanne Williamson, to learn how they have successfully maneuvered TikTok as their platform for instigating change. Together they unpacked how they are driving their content to guide 2SLGBTQ+ viewers and allies towards an uplifting future for all youth.

Tyra Blizzard headshotTyra Blizzard (she/they/he/ze) is a Social Activism Influencer, Public Speaker, Professional Basketball Player, & Small Business Owner. Her mission on social media is to combine her passions for social justice & health by initiating important conversations about racism, misogyny, mental/physical/spiritual/sexual health, women in sport, gender & sexuality, homophobia transphobia, & ableism, among many other social justice issues. She has created creative & safe spaces on TikTok, Instagram & YouTube where people can discuss these taboo/controversial topics, free of censorship or judgement.

Owen UnruhOwen Unruh (he/they) is a Two-Spirit Cree, model, dancer and content creator living on Unceded Coast Salish Territory also known as Vancouver B.C. In recovering from an addiction that spanned 10 years, he’s found purpose in transmuting that hardship into inspiring messages for people going through their own struggles. By stepping into his personal power, loving himself unapologetically, and thriving in spite of his circumstances, he hopes to empower others to do the same. He is passionate about wellness, fashion and fitness; approaching these things through the lens of his lived experience as an Indigenous person in recovery from addiction. By expressing himself authentically he aims to become the healthy Queer/Indigenous representation in media that he needed when he was younger.

Breanne Williamson

 

 

Breanne Williamson (she/her) is a lesbian content creator, writer, and actor based in Vancouver, Canada. She is the host of the popular LGBTQ+ podcast, I Can Explain Podcast and has over 525,000 TikTok followers. Her short film, Coming Out, has amassed over two million views on YouTube. Breanne is driven to create the content that she wished she had growing up.

Omid Razavi (he/ him) is a marketing and communications specialist with a background in developing advocacy and awareness campaigns for non-profit organizations. Over the years he has led communications and strategic brand development for several organizations, including Kids Help Phone, Pflag Canada, Swim Drink Fish and the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management Institute for Gender and the Economy. Today, he is proud to serve as the Executive Director of It Gets Better Canada, a national charity focused on empowering and uplifting 2SLGBTQ+ youth.
